Today I took a detour and used Retro Mama's pattern to make some fabric eggs. After I cut out , sewed and stuffed the first one I thought, man, this doesn't look like a good egg! It looked bad. Really bad.
So I tried it again.
Same result!
Another bad egg!
Too fat, more like a misshapen beach ball than an egg.
So I went back and read the tutorial and found my error!
I was going with the grain instead of against the grain and it certainly made a huge difference!
She tells you to cut the sections out perpendicular to the selvage.
I just didn't read it.
I have sewn balls before, but never eggs and I just didn't realize how drastically it mattered- the straight of the grain is stretchy and really gets fat when you stuff it.
I feel like such a loser.
All theses years I have been sewing and just naturally used the straight of grain.
So I made a tiny chick too.
Same thing happened when I cut it out perpendicular to the selvage.
It is much smaller than the other ones I've made.
d'uh!
I'm certainly humbled now.
anyway...
It's hot again.
I wish that cold front could have lasted forever for us.
Back to the bake!
Skip Spring and go directly to Summer!
Maybe I'll just go to the beach and forget all about eggs and chicks and sewing calamities.

even though he knows that you are slightly cracked."
