Yesterday was a sewing marathon.
I found a bin full of clothing that I have been saving to reuse/repurpose/upcycle/recycle/deconstruct/can't throw away because it's just too good- but looks outdated or doesn't fit anymore.
As I pulled out the brown linen jacket I remembered how stylish and sophisticated it once made me feel, as I wore it on chilly days to work.
Clothing has power and although the clothes may not make the man, they can certainly transform a woman from dowdy to fashion model in a moment.
Wearing fabric collage clothing takes a certain amount of self esteem- don't try it if you want to blend in and go unnoticed ( or if you are an undercover agent!) because people will start conversations based on their interpretation of what you've "got going on" your clothes. Like: what in the world are you wearing???!!!
I decided to go back to how I used to make fabric collage, layered with batting and backing and sew around the edges and then trim and stitch down on to another fabric and so I pulled a lovely Ralph Lauren sheet and "quilted" it and then stitched that on the lower front sections of the jacket.
I knew my theme was going to be "sticks & stones" and that this would be a sort of protection jacket- when worn, no feelings could possibly get hurt! Because sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never harm me.
It may not be your cup of tea but hopefully someone will fall in love with it at the upcoming Art Shows I am doing.
Today is going-to-the-mall-dragging-husband-to-buy-him-sneakers-so-he-can-go-on-walks-with-me-day and may cause more of a pain in my neck than yesterday's sewing for 10 hours but, it must be done!
Tomorrow is our 5th anniversary and I am thinking about making a tree stump cake.
I really want to make the meringue mushrooms but I am not sure if I have that kind of energy.
Maybe I will just dream about them and pretend as I make cupcakes instead! Or buy a keylime pie from Publix!
That tells ya something if I would rather go buy a cake than make one...I must be worn out from all that sewing!
I had to give my fingers a break from quilting as one finger has a hole in it from not wearing a thimble! I think I am going to try out badbirds recomendation of the thimble she is using.
anyway...happy weekend! I will try to get caught up on emails and answer some questions on Monday- I have just been reading them like a zombie and not writing back- too tired...I guess. Thanks for the suggestions on the bird fabric- It isn't Northcott State Bird fabric- I really hope someone can tell me who makes it- it has to be out there somewhere!
Happy almost Halloween!
Love & stitches,
Calamity Kim
