Yesterday's adventure brought us a much needed day filled with carefree exploration and sights of unanticipated wonder.
We went to Bradenton (about 20 miles North) to see the Moths captured in digital perfection by Joseph Scheer.
The Bishop Planetarium and South Florida Museum and The Parker Manatee Aquarium are all housed together in a beautiful and elegant surrounding that has been remodeled and updated to include a state-of-the-science planetarium and theater.
We watched a killer show narrated by Lawrence Fishburn about our galaxy and solar system.
I can't think of better descriptives than awesome, wonderful, cool and amazing when searching my feeble mind for the proper words to describe leaning back in the comfy chairs and looking up into the domed ceiling while beautifully choreographed images of stars, planets and supernovas fly with cyber sureness around my minds eye.
It was a wonderful experience.
Then we walked over to the exhibit of moth photography and were amazed and (i was delighted) with the colors and patterns of the moths depicted there.
It was worth the gas to travel to see and the cost of admission.
You should go see it if you haven't already.
If you live around here and like that sort of thing.
The South Florida Museum is a nonprofit organization that relies on individual and corporate support for its exhibits, programs and daily operations.
As community members we should all help support this local treasure.
I had no idea what I had been missing all these years.
It has been at least 25 years since I came and saw Snooty the manatee.
It is all changed; and now new and beautiful.
I have more to share but will post tomorrow with additional pictures from the other sections of the museum- Fred just spotted a monarch butterfly outside and yelled for me to "hurry and bring the camera!"
I'll be back!
