My son Troy is so smart. Oh, I hate to brag, but it's true! He just got a position writing over at Scalpem.com and I am so proud!! I went over to read some of his wonderful words of wisdom concerning FSU and next season.
You can hit the link or on my blog roll , look for Scalpem and go see. Put in Troy or maybe Troy Hebert in the search and then check it out. He earns a few pennies if you happen to click on any of the Google ads...so help a college kid out...if you have time and don't mind that I begged....He is still in school for at least another year and has been footing the bill himself with only a little help, now and then from me or his Dad. He is majoring in Sports Communications. Since he was small he has loved sports and especially FSU. I always thought he liked the Seminole Indian Mascot but this is so much more than that! He loves FSU.
He will probably end up living in Tallahassee. I think it's lovely there but the Hwy 10 getting there is just a waste- they could be lining that hwy with Krystal Burgers and Cracker barrels and really make the drive exciting! Ha ha! Anyway, He is doing great with Dean's list again and I really am proud. Just thought I'd share.
Today we took a drive out to Lakewood Ranch to look at Main St. At least it's their version of Main St. The old Main St is still in Downtown Sarasota, right where it ought to be! This new version has a Cinema where the home of the Sarasota Film Society will be. There are some nice stores but it looks sterile and cold. I like my Main St's to have a few bums loitering about or some trash blowing by.
There were a few flowers and the sidewalks were beautiful. Sorta reminded me of Downtown Disney with the piped in music and the palm trees planted in perfect flower beds. It was nice to explore and it was fun to look in the shops!
I saw the cutest little mini- fridges with great , happy, colorful graphics on them- they were in the $135 dollar range! Yikes! I did scout some possible places to sell my Fabulous Calamity Kim Art Aprons though.
I will have to get really brave and put on my Teflon sweater-set when I go back to possibly sell some to those shops! I almost prefer the stuck up snottiness of Sarasota's Saint Armand's Circle.
At least there they have a reason to be better than everyone else! ( by the Beach, prime real estate) This is out east of Sarasota and ten years ago there wasn't anything and all the millionaires got tired of driving in to town. So they built their own Shopping Centers with lots of banks, Publix and now a "better" downtown. I remember when most of Sarasota had orange groves and cow pastures.
Not any more, baby!
We've got condos as far as the eye can see! Makes me miss NC and especially Asheville with it's beautiful Architecture and air of Victorian genteelness. Like in Montford with the B & B's. Florida is just so new. Nothing here is old unless ya go north to places like Tallahassee or St Augustine. Anyway, still working on some aprons...maybe I'll be done tomorrow. I also brain-stormed something else that I can't wait to show you yaya's. But not done yet.....This was kinda funny..We even saw a couple in matching black shirts and tan khaki shorts...what's up with the matching? we are so not rich enough to pull that off....nor would I want to...me n' ol fred are just happy to have some squaller to document! So not high brow...After we left he said they should have a coffee shop. Maybe Starbucks is too plebian for Lakewood Ranch. There was a really cute little children's bookstore called bookworms that had a neat tree right in the middle of the store with flowers on the branches and little chenille chairs for the cuties!
