McLovin to laugh

Superbad was Super Good! We went yesterday and Fred laughed uncontrollably. That's exactly what he needed after a long stressful week!  It was funny and I laughed too. Who could help it? Some of the hilarity involves gross and vulgar stuff to be sure, but like Harold & Kumar, these guys are on a quest, this time for alcohol and chicks. They are nice, well the fat kid gets nicer, but the star is going to be: McLovin! He isn't McDreamy- He's McNerdie but so cute in his spassed out effort to be cool. He obtains a fake license and when the drunk hot chick at the party asks him " so what's it like in Hawaii" You have to crack up! So, if you are willing to follow along on their adventure and don't mind some gross humor then go see it. I am excited about The Golden Compass and Resident Evil: Extinction. I love Milla because of The Fifth Element.  Alice, in Resident Evil is such a Bad ass that  I hope she laughs all the way to the bank.  Like Mad Max- it's Post Apocalyptic and appears to have some zombie mutated creatures going after the remaining few humans.  Sorry, but I love Sci-Fi and Zombies and  Aliens and all that!

Then there is Across the Universe. It looks like it's going to have some far-out acid trip special effects. I was born in 61 so I watched as my Brother tried to "be a hippie" under my conservative parents control.Now, as a parent, I can't imagine being so angry about hair. I love my Son even if his hair is down to his ankles.
It's a choice and a personal one.
I suspect it was all about the lifestyle that the hair alluded to and not the actual length of it anyway. I think my parents threw my Brother out of the house over it.
Times have certainly changed.
I asked Fred what the parents of the boys from Superbad must think and he chuckled and said as long as it makes money, they will be proud. {So, Troy, if you are reading this- maybe you should write a "great screen play involving FSU, Frat boys and cheerleaders".}

So the neighbors tree fell in our yard last night. We were in the kitchen blissing out on banana bread and dancing to music and never heard a thing! I slow dance with Fred, and then Sadie wants a turn! She is so cute! We walked outside to have a game of frisbee and were shocked to see this in our front yard! Last year this tree had a bad hornets nest and Fred sprayed it for me. I went to knock on the neighbors door and there was no answer. The door bell didn't seem to work either. He is the Vampire that sleeps during the day and is awake all night. I hope he has a chain saw, cause we sure don't!

I always thought those were house plants anyway.

So, I will be mailing some things and then working on the cupboard today.
It is almost pleasant outside.
There is a coolish breeze.

Flowers, Fabrics, Fun, Finishing...

So, what's new? Today was a busy day!

I spent most of today outside in the flower beds, weeding while Fred mowed. Now that the rain has started the grass is growing and filling in all the bare spots. It was starting to look like a dog with a bad case of mange in the front yard!

Then I gave Sadie her bath and  a trim. She just lays down on the stone patio and lets me wash her belly- I have never seen a dog as sweet and gentle as she is! What a hoot! Then I dried her and had my shower.
After a trip to the grocery store and to Michael's to use my 40% off coupon on a pad of Amy Butler paper ( and drooling on the Martha Stewart Halloween Craft line) I headed home to sand on the Cupboard some more. I am loving the  skeleton silhouette for your windows- I keep forgetting to tell Amanda about it. I have to go back with the camera!

Fred had an emergency work call and when he got home and laughed at me and the carport for being covered head to toe in sawdust- he asked if it was more work than I thought it would be? Without hesitation I answered no, because I always know its going to be a tremendous amount of work!
That doesn't mean it's not worth doing. It just means that my 3-4 days will in reality be about 3-4 weeks. I have been refinishing furniture for 25 years!
The lightning and thunder and hammering rain drove me indoors where I pulled out the latest Hancock's of Paducah Catalog and had to keep from crying at all the beautiful fabrics.
Really.
They can make me tear up.
I want them all.

My Mom loves owl's and we always got her one for each birthday. So 70's right? Yep.

My Brother has a tiny owl that sits on the branch in the bottle brush tree outside his home and will let you get within 3 feet before flying off.
That's as close as I have ever come to one- except at the zoo or someplace where they are held captive.
I have always loved barn owls and snowy owls.

Anyway, I drooled over the pages and laughed at these skulls by Michael Miller...they are wonderful- for the pirate in all us crafters

I was also surprised to see Marie Osmond's fabric line. I remember when she used to design teddy bears and porcelain dolls. I like her fabrics- they seem very old-fashioned. Not what I usually buy. I am so in love with Jane Sassaman, Kaffe Fasset, Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner, Amy Butler, Sis Boom....well, the list never ends. I just love fabric. Have you seen Amy's new Nigella line?

These are Marie Osmond's fabrics and a quilt pattern by her also. They look intricate and very rich in color in the catalog.
You should take a moment to go to their site and request a catalog or dream book as I call it.
Maybe it even motivates me to work a little harder to plan more quilts or sewing projects.
I must use some of that wonderful fabric stash before I continue to buy more. It's lovely to have something to dream about though.
Tomorrow I plan to sand and then get started waxing and painting- I'll take some pictures so that you can see the cupboards progress.
We are sneaking out to see SuperBad too.
It has the boy from Arrested Development and is supposed to be very funny. Lord knows we need a good laugh.
I hope it's not too nasty, but, if it's teenage boys, it's bound to be full of that  kind of humor! My Brother and Fred will love it! It reminds me that my son whose birthday is tomorrow (26!!!!) owes me a movie date. We were planning to see Transformers when I was up there last, but maybe when I head back his way after the new Grand baby gets here. Such wonderful things to look forward to. Flowers, Fabric, Fun, Fantastic cupboards, Finishing long overdue projects...fabulous!

Today is a Beautiful Day!

Good Morning!
Did everyone watch some cartoons?
The best job I ever had was at the Warner Bros Studio store, when I lived in Beverly Mass. I worked as a  nurse for hospice during the day and went to this second job at night.  I enjoyed seeing the adults turn to children again as they stood in front of the huge video wall and watched bugs and daffy and sometimes Batman cartoons.
It was a nice way to wash the day away and be happy. I guess I love the color and knowing that someone touched pencil to paper to make them...at least the old school cartoons. They are art. It took me a long time to love Sponge Bob and his square pants. I used to watch Danger Mouse, Biker Mice From Mars, Pinky & The Brain, Under dog...where is he now? I miss Thundercats and Rocky & Bullwinkle, Johnny Quest, and anything Chuck Jones.
When my Dad was stationed at Ft Monmouth in NJ, every Sat my Brother and I would go to the movies. Nothing was better than sitting in that big dark theater with some gummi bears, a coke and small popcorn.  I loved movies and the cartoons they showed first. It was pure escape. I still do it now.
When I get stressed I either head for the beach, where the wave music settles my soul or to the theater where the dark washes over me and I lose myself in another world.
I hope they never close theaters. No matter how much it costs, you only get totally absorbed in the atmosphere of a theater. No phones, or doorbells, or pets needing out or kids crying for more juicy juice....
So on this Cartoon Saturday, I am going to sew and create and have some oatmeal and bananas and watch me some art!

How's That For Some Florida Christmas Cheer!!!?!!!! I just had a call from my brother Glenn and after I read him my version of the 12 Days Poem he just GRUNTED. What a caveman he is. He said "I'm glad to see you're making good use of your time". Nice. Naughty? You decide. I was just reminded of My Favorite Holiday Movie: Home For The Holidays. Have you seen it? I love several parts of it very much. The Mom chain smoking in the pantry, saying how the Robert Downey,Jr Character never wanted to be too close. Him telling her she has bad hair. Holly Hunter smoking dope in the bathroom. The turkey falling in the sister's lap. The quiet time with Dad watching football. Yes, that movie brings back a lot of memories of The Nightmare Christmas Dinners. I can sigh a big sigh that there will be no tension or frantic fanning of smoke out the front door this year! I wish that the kids could have been here but I am happy too, that they will be having Christmas together with their own family. In their own little house and apartment. Together. Making Memories. Not having to put up with anyone elses opinions or their recipe for green bean casserole or tuna noodle surprise. I can imagine Austin's face when he sees all the presents and the fun of ripping open those packages. I have some very wonderful memories of Troy ripping open his presents. The Joy. That's what Christmas is for me. It's for the children. So I try to remember the good and push away the bad. We'll get to see pictures after all. And I know that the kids are happy. that's enough.

I am making lasagna and lemon meringue pie. Maybe some rolls. Today we're having homemade pizza; thank goodness Publix sells that wonderful dough! I'm putting on my apron and I'm gonna start cooking!! Happy Holidays to you all! Cherish the special time with your families and those you love. Kiss under the imaginary mistletoe and be happy where you are. Love and Cheer, Joy and Peace. and a flamingo in a palm tree. and Bah Humbug just for good measure!!

Off To See The Wizard

I am starting to pack, actually to make small piles. I am taking my wonderful pink bike and leaving Miss Sadie with Super Fred so he won't be lonely and she won't be traumatized by Charlie the poodle.

My Dad loves to put her in the bike basket and ride!

I would have to put Sadie on roller skates to follow us!

I think Fred is right about the pandemonium and chaos that would ensue with both dogs chasing each other around the house and neither of us need that, even though I will miss her!

I will miss everyone in my blog/Flickr world too!

I don't think I'm taking the computer, after all.

I am just taking some embroidery and my bike.

I can always hop on and ride!

I still have some cleaning up to do, so This will be a short one!
